Website Marketing with SEO

Updated on August 9, 2012

SEO TIPS

The internet is a place where a person is required to learn, understand and apply various known fundamentals in order to ensure that he succeeds. These are usually marketing strategies that one uses to:

· Drive traffic to their website or blog.

· Guarantee high indexing by search engines like Google, yahoo, Bing once a website is submitted for indexing.

Traffic is the number of visitors that check out your webpages, and they play a very significant role in ensuring that your website is ranked highly by the search engines. In line with this, it is extremely important for individuals to apply the necessary fundamentals in order to attract traffic to their websites. This applies whether a person is a beginner, intermediate or professional on the internet, and one such strategic principal is Search Engine Optimization or SEO as it is commonly referred to.

SEO is the ability of an individual to use concepts such as Meta Tags, keywords and others in their website in a manner that will guarantee the website is indexed as high as possible in the various search engines. It usually is a process that you can either do on your own, or outsource to SEO companies. These are companies that specialize in the ranking of an individual’s website and can easily be found on the internet. However, it takes time and effort to learn and become an expert at SEO. Most of the time is spent researching the best methods to apply SEO and also to figure out the methods that work best for the different search engines.

Despite the challenging first steps in SEO, it becomes relatively easy when you progress and become familiar with the procedure. An important rule to note is that, as you prepare your website, always remember to use SEO. This is because it helps to keep you content relevant to the message of your website and it is also time saving.

STEPS to BEGIN SEO

When a person’s website is set-up and running, he has to work in order to get the website noticed and have people visiting it. SEO is a powerful tool to use in case you want to achieve this.

1. Let the Search Engines know what your site is about

Once you submit your website to the various search engines, do not stop there. You have to tell them what your site is all about. The search engines in turn visit your website to look for information they can index, so that when visitors type the search word they get to see your website if it is related to the search word.

Information on the homepage of your website should always give enough information about the goal of your website. You realize this by keeping the contents of the page relevant to the objective of your website. For example if your website is about “baby foods” , your homepage should describe the type of baby foods that your website is referring to, the age group of the babies that will use that type of food, the health advantages of feeding babies that particular type of food.…to mention but a few.

2. Page Title

You should include the name of your website in the title since it is the first thing search engines look for when you submit your website to be indexed. The title appears in the title bar of the browser. However, it should always be simple and precise about your website’s objective.

3. Meta Tags

These are normally clues consisting of one word that aid the search engines to determine what they are looking for. You have to fill all the Meta Tag information on your website to make it easier for the search engines to understand the relevance of your site.

These are the first steps to introduce your website to the internet. As with anything else, you have to refine them to suit you and your needs and even improve on them.

NB: Patience is required when working with SEO .
